Why am I running?

Many people have asked me, “Why are you running for State Representative?”

I am running because I have spent many years serving this community. I have helped provide health and hygiene resources, supported literacy and math through tutoring, assisted families struggling to meet daily needs, and encouraged others with something as simple—and powerful—as a smile and a positive word.

I believe every person deserves to be treated respectfully, regardless of background, race, gender, or socio-economic status. I do not believe in judgment—but I do believe in fairness. I believe those who have harmed others should be held accountable for their actions. I believe that no one should be told what to do with their own bodies.

My own family has been directly affected by state laws regarding healthcare and the rising costs of food, fuel, and utilities. We know what it feels like to be forced to choose between paying a bill, purchasing necessary medication, or putting food on the table.

I have worked hands-on with youth, the elderly, the homeless, veterans, individuals facing mental health challenges, and families who feel overlooked and unheard. I understand your struggles because my family and I have faced them as well.

Most importantly, I believe that regardless of political affiliation, we all know right from wrong. We must have the courage to make our voices heard and to do what is right by choosing PEOPLE OVER POLITICS.

It is time for someone to stand up and truly represent the voices in our community that are not being heard.

That is why I, Corretta Bishop, am running for State Representative for Missouri District 152.
